A short time ago, the 19-year-old woman who was riding as a passenger in the vehicle that was chased by police officers and hit the force's vehicle, injuring its two members, voluntarily presented herself to the Paphos Police Directorate. The young woman was taken to the OFFICES of the TD where she is being questioned, and will then be detained as an arrest warrant has already been issued against her.
A warrant has also been issued for the 19-year-old driver of the vehicle, who is still wanted.
Earlier in the afternoon, a police patrol signalled a vehicle driver to stop for inspection, but the case resulted in a savage chase in communities in the western peri-urban area of Paphos, a ramming of the police vehicle, immobilization of the suspicious vehicle and an escape of the two passengers who were lost running in the neighbourhood of Emba.
The incident began unfolding in an area of Tremithousa early in the afternoon, when the 19-year-old driver of a car with a co-driver also a 19-year-old, both known to police for various cases, at the sight of the police patrol developed speed while attempting to escape. The car driven by the 19-year-old was headed through rural roads to Emba, where just before his exit on the main road Emba-Tala, he also collided with the police car that was pursuing him, without stopping again.
The driver continued to drive in a dangerous manner entering the residential area of Emba, with obvious dangers to unsuspecting civilians. Eventually the car came to a stop on an Emba sidewalk, but its two young passengers got out of it and fled running into the narrow streets of the area.
A strong force of the Paphos Police Directorate was mobilised to locate them and investigations are continuing to locate the driver, following the appearance of the 19-year-old girl in the Police..
Members of the patrol car that the 19-year-old struck with his vehicle in an attempt to escape were lightly injured and taken to Paphos Hospital for first aid.
