The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 25, 2021 two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 188.
- 164 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 52 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 12,805 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 126 (positivity rate: 0.98%) new cases of COVID-19 have been identified by molecular tests (PCRs) and antigen rapid tests, bringing the total number of cases to 30,143.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Male, aged 69, with no underlying diseases according to the medical death certificate, which ended up in the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
- Male, aged 60, with no underlying diseases according to the medical death certificate, which ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 188, of which:
- 127 men (68%), and
- 61 women (32%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 164 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 52 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 52 patients critical, 30 are intubated, six are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 16 in an Increased Care Unit.
C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 12,805 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out, 1,406 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 11,399 using the antigen rapid test, 126 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
- 25 cases from 136 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 9 cases from 298 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 11 cases from 298 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2 cases from 179 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
- 79 cases from 11,399 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 492 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 3 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic
