The Ministry of Health announces that today, January 26, 2021:
- Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 190.
- 160 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 53 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 10,992 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 109 (positivity rate: 0.99%) new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 30,252.
Detailed today's results.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Male, aged 69, with underlying diseases, who ended up in Nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 93, with underlying diseases, who ended up in Limassol General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 190, of which:
- 128 men (67%), and
- 62 women (33%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 160 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 53 of whom are in serious condition or in MAF conditions.
Of the 53 patients critical, 32 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 18 in an Increased Care Unit.

C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test):
Of the 10,992 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 1,725 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 9,267 using the antigen rapid test, 109 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
- 22 cases from 194 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 1 case of 272 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 8 cases from 731 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 5 cases from 262 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 1 case of 266 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through public health clinics.
- 72 cases from 9,267 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.
