NEW MEASURES TO LIMIT THE SPREAD OF THE VIRUS FROM TODAY, 29 DECEMBER

 Filenews 29 December 2020

Due to the ugly epidemiological picture observed in Cyprus in recent times, in an effort to limit the spread of the virus in the community, the presence in homes of persons other than those permanently resident in it, is prohibited with effect from today, 29 December 2020, at 6 p.m., until 10 January 2021.

Exceptions for the presence of non-permanent resident in homes are given for the following purposes:

1. For the purposes of the care of minors and persons with disabilities for the period/duration when the physical presence of the parents is necessary in their workplace.

2. For the purpose of assisting persons who are unable to self-serve (medication, care of persons, food supply, etc.). It is understood that such persons should take all personal protective measures and remain only for a reasonable period of time required to care for the individual, so as not to put him or her at risk.

It should be clarified that only for 31 December 2020, the presence of persons other than permanent residents is permitted provided that they come from only two families and provided that the total number of persons in the house does not exceed 10 persons, including minors.

At the same time, it is recalled that the following prohibitions remain in force in open-air public and private areas:

1. Gatherings of more than two persons, with the exception of minor children accompanying their parents, are prohibited in public and private gathering places, such as parks, squares, dams, excursion areas, beaches, pedestrian streets and marinas, etc.

2. Mass and other events, gatherings, demonstrations, parades, concerts, festivals, including festivals, Christmas bazaars and similar events in public or private places, shall be prohibited.

In order to supervise compliance with the Orders, the competent authority is the Cyprus Police and citizens will be able to file complaints either by name or anonymously by transmitting information on violations of Orders to the Unit set up by the Cyprus Police for this purpose, at 1460, 22 606 803 and 22 606 804.

At the same time, for the purpose of decongesting and limiting the likelihood of transmission of the virus in workplaces, from tomorrow, 30 December 2020, and until 10 January 2021, the state and wider state sectors are working with the necessary security personnel in the offices to manage urgent issues and serve citizens to cover emergencies. The staff who will be released will remain at home in order to work with the teleworking method. In defining security personnel, account should be taken of the need to restrict officials belonging to high-risk groups.

A recommendation is also made to the private sector, as there and where possible, to provide facilities for staff for home teleworking.

The above decisions will be settled by Decree to be issued within the day.
