INTENSE POLICE PRESENCE AHEAD OF THE HOLIDAYS - CONTINUING UNTIL 6 JANUARY

 Filenews 22 December 2020

The Police during the upcoming festive season will take pancyprian measures to prevent road traffic collisions.

The presence of its members, mainly on motorways and main roads, where traffic is increased, will be particularly strong from tomorrow Wednesday 23 December until 06 January.

The mobilisation of the police on the road network is necessary at this time, because there are increased incidents of serious and fatal traffic collisions.

Once again, drivers are particularly reminded about flagrant traffic offences for which there is no tolerance. Such are:

• Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

• Driving at excessive speed

• Non-use of a seat belt

• The non-use of a protective helmet

• Reckless, dangerous or negligent driving

• The forbidden right turn

• Violation of traffic lights

• Driving in oncoming traffic

• Non-free hands while driving (e.g. mobile phone use)

• Neglectful overtaking

• Failure to give priority to pedestrians on a pedestrian crossing

The Police remain committed to the service of society in order to ensure the safety of the public on the road network. Police personnel will work tirelessly to prevent fatal and serious road collisions.
