By 29 December 2020, 144 deaths of people diagnosed with COVID-19 have been reported. 66% are for men (n=95 deaths) and the remaining 34% for women (n=49 deaths). Of the 144 deaths, 117 (81%), had an underlying cause of COVID-19 disease.
65% of the total number of deaths with the underlying cause of COVID-19 is for men (n=76 deaths) and the remaining 35% for women (n=41 deaths).
The highest incidence of deaths occurs in the 80-84 age group (28% of the total number of deaths, n=41).
The month of December recorded the highest number of deaths of people positive for COVID-19, since the beginning of the pandemic to date, with the figure reaching 53% of the total number of deaths (n=76). The number of deaths in the month of December is 117% higher than the number of deaths for the whole month of November (n=35.24%).
At the 49th week of the year, the highest number of deaths (n=21 deaths) of people positive for COVID-19 has been recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, with 15% of the total number of deaths.
36 deaths involved people who had their permanent residence in nursing homes, 28 of whom ended up in a public hospital.
92% of the deaths (n=132) were at the place of death in the Public Hospital.
62 of the 76 deaths recorded in the month of December have as permanent residence the province of Nicosia and Limassol (37 and 25 deaths respectively).
