CYPRUS - A CULTURE IN TRANSITION

All cultures change through time. No culture is static; however, most cultures tend to resist change.  Cyprus is indeed a place where human virtues like warmth, integrity and friendships are still a way of life.  Although the island strives to preserve and protect its traditional cultural patterns by putting up barriers to alien ideas and things, Cypriots have, in recent years, become open to some kinds of change.

Adopting western technology and culture in everyday life, has proven that Cyprus is driven by the expansion of international commerce, while opening up to new cultures has certainly contributed to the island’s ethnic diversity, at the same time actively and intensely promoting the Cypriot culture and making it available to all.

So many things point towards the real splendours of Cyprus: historic, mythical and cultural destinations brimming with plant life in all their colourful glory, plentiful outdoor activities including village festivals featuring local delicacies as far as the eye can see; a burgeoning and diverse art scene, multi-talented people, a fledgling film industry, and a lifestyle that’s second-to-none. Whatever one is doing, there is so much to dazzle the senses, and with weather that allows for plenty of exploration, something is bound to rejuvenate and inspire.

Today, Cypriots find themselves in the privileged position to share their love for Aphrodite’s island through social media platforms, vlogs, blogs and other channels that contribute to the country’s unique brand. From remote villages, passionate people and exceptional artisans, to impressive geological rock formations and national treasures, Cyprus offers the perfect playground.

There is so much to discover. Surrounded by the vast sea that gave ‘birth’ to a goddess, and the magnificent sites surrounding it, a visit to the island of Cyprus will strengthen one’s cultural awareness and deepen one’s sense of legacy. It will also allow one to meet a wide range of intriguing people from different fields, and introduce new perspectives; engaging with the locals will fill one’s bank of new ideas, and propel one into new chapters.

Artists, rock bands, award-winning architects, stand-up comedians, film producers, actors, authors, herbalists, sports celebrities, motivational gurus, fashion designers – the list is endless. Hidden churches, abandoned villages, enthralling museums, haunted hotels, images and traces of the deeds of deities; this is Cyprus – an evolving, cultural hub that preserves its identity, yet always willing to embrace the new.
