CORONAVIRUS - EXTRA MEASURES TO BE APPLIED ON PUBLIC TRANSPORT

Cyprus Mail 4 December 2020  - by George Psyllides

Transport Minister Yiannis Karousos on Friday issued additional measures against the spread of the coronavirus that will be applied in public buses from Saturday at 6am.

According to the order, if a bus does not have a driver compartment with a partition panel, the seats immediately behind and the first one to the driver’s left, must remain empty.

Steps must be taken to prevent crowding during boarding and disembarking, and disinfectant must be available at the door for passengers to use when entering.

Buses must also be cleaned and disinfected frequently, certainly before entering service and during the day.

Disinfection should be carried out after four routes at least, where possible, at the end of the route.

Special attention should be paid to surfaces that are used frequently by passengers like handles and seatbelts.

At each stop, at the end of the route and during breaks, drivers should keep their doors open to air the vehicle, as well as windows and sunroofs. Buses should not use air conditioning systems with recycled air.

Buses that carry pupils should be disinfected before and after each trip and if possible, their passengers should use the same seats every day.

It is also recommended for pupils who are in the same class or siblings to sit next to each other.

The use of protective face masks by everyone aboard is mandatory, irrespective of age.
