The Ministry of Health announces that today, 29 December 2020, four people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 117. It is also noted that of the 18,070 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 907 cases of COVID-19 disease were detected.
Of the 907 new cases, 369 cases were identified from 13,805 samples examined using the antigen rapid test.
He is particularly concerned that a further 29 incidents have been detected by rapid tests in nursing homes.
It is noted that the four people who died, with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19, concern:
- Man, aged 82, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 83,with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
- Male, aged 84,with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 88, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 117, of which:
- 76 men (65%), and
- 41 women (35%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.
It should also be noted that:
- 154 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 42 of whom are in serious condition.
- 18,070 disease detection tests have been performed using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 907 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 21,315.
Here are today's results in detail:
Hospitals:
A total of 154 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 42 of whom are in serious condition.
Of the 42 patients critical, 20 are intubated, five are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 17 in an Increased Care Unit.
Of the 18,070 laboratory diagnoses currently carried out using the molecular method (PCR), 907 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
- 153 cases from 1,002 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 10 cases from 652 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 343 cases out of 2,039 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 27 cases from 375 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 5 cases from 57 samples taken under the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
- 369 cases from 13,805 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 12 samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos, Tylliria.
