The Ministry of Health announces that today, 30 December 2020:
- Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 119.
- 159 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 41 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 17,451 disease detection tests have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and the antigen rapid test.
- 704 new cases of COVID-19 disease were identified by molecular tests (PCR) and antigen rapid test, bringing the total number of cases to 22,019.
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Male, aged 67, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
- Male, aged 90, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at the Nicosia General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 119, of which:
- 78 men (66%), and
- 41 women (34%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 80 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 159 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 41 of whom are in serious condition.
Of the 41 patients critical, 22 are intubated, three are hospitalized in an Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 16 in an Increased Care Unit.
In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:
C. Positive events COVID-19 (PCR test and rapid antigen test): Of the 17,451 laboratory diagnoses carried out today, 3,620 were carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 13,831 with the antigen rapid test, 704 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified, resulting as follows:
- 194 cases from 824 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 7 cases from 467 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports.
- 112 cases from 1,434 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 24 cases from 357 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 3 cases from 464 samples taken as part of a re-examination carried out on the 7th day following the arrival of persons who have returned from the United Kingdom and are under mandatory restriction in hotels in the Republic.
- 364 cases from 13,831 samples tested using the antigen rapid test.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- 36 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
- 38 samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos, Tylliria.
