Taking into account the data obtained with regard to the new strain of SARS-CoV-2 virus and in an effort to safeguard Public Health as a precautionary measure and until further information is clarified by the scientific community, for those who arrived at Larnaca and Paphos Airports from UK airports from today, 21 December 2020,at 6 p.m., the following shall apply:
- Passengers will undergo a laboratory examination upon arrival at the Airport.
- All passengers arriving from the United Kingdom will be transferred to hotels in the Republic for a mandatory self-limit of 7 days. Persons under the age of 18 will be able to self-restrict at home. However, they are allowed to remain confined to hotels if they travel with their parents/guardians or, if they cannot, to self-limit at home.
- On the 7th day, they will be re-tested and those who have a negative result will continue their self-limitation at home for an additional 3 days (total containment days: 10).
- On the 10th day and provided that no symptoms occur, individuals will be released automatically. In case of symptoms, they should contact their Personal Physician for further medical guidance.
It is noted that the cost of transportation and accommodation in hotels is borne by the State.
At the same time, for evaluation and investigation purposes, those who have arrived in the last week from the United Kingdom and have been positive in the context of the sample tests carried out, the samples will be forwarded to the Cyprus Institute of Neurology and Genetics for evaluation as to the existence of this mutant strain.
The Scientific Advisory Committee on Coronavirus, in consultation with the relevant mechanisms of the European Union, is closely monitoring developments and any new recommendation/recommendation likely to differentiate the above arrangements, which will be announced immediately.
