50 NEW CASES, TWO DEATHS, PLUS 6 POSITIVE RAPID TESTS [to be confirmed by PCR] - FRIDAY

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 25, 2020:

- Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 109.

- 148 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 42 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 1,407 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 1,283 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 124 using the rapid test.

- 50 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 19,366.

-       In 6 cases the rapid antigen test had a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

- Male, aged 71, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.

- Male, aged 73, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 109, of which:

- 70 men (64%), and

- 39 women (36%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 79 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 148 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 42 of whom are in serious condition.

Of the 42 patients critical, 19 are intubated, one is hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 22 in the Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Molecular Examination (PCRtest): Of the 1,283 laboratory diagnoses carried out today by the Molecular Method (PCR), 50 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:

  • 27 cases from 729 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 23 cases from 255 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 299 samples taken as part of a passenger check at Larnaca and Paphos Airports
RAPID TESTS

Of the 124 tests carried out using the rapid test, 6 positive results were obtained.

These 6 cases will be examined using the PCR molecular method in order to be verified.
