The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 17, 2020:
- 115 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 25 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 11,518 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 3,750 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 7,768 using the rapid test.
- 457 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 16,647. The 457 include 151 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
- In 240 cases the rapid antigen test had a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Hospitalized:
A total of 115 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYP hospitals, 25 of whom are in serious condition.
Of the 25 patients critical, 12 are intubated, two are hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 11 in the Increased Care Unit.
In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:
B. Molecular Examination (PCR test)
Of the 3,750 laboratory diagnoses carried out today using the Molecular Method (PCR), 457 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:
- 173 cases from 940 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 2 cases from 725 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check.
- 110 cases from 1,396 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 18 cases from 359 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2 cases from 120 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
- 1 case of 42 samples taken as part of an audit of the ELDYK camp.
- 151 cases from 156 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in previous days.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- From samples taken as part of a check by the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation, 12 laboratory diagnoses were carried out.
Of the 7,768 tests carried out using the rapid test, 240 positive results were obtained.
These 240 cases will be examined using the PCR molecular method in order to be verified.
