The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 11, 2020:
- Three people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 75.
The three people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:
- Male, aged 63, with underlying diseases, who was being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of nicosia General Hospital.
- Woman, aged 83, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital.
- A man, aged 81, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized at Famagusta General Hospital, after being transferred from the Kyperountas Multi-PowerEd Center.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 75, of which:
- 49 men (65%), and
- 26 women (35%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77 years.
It is also noted that:
- 110 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 17 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 12,816disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 3,922 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 8,894 using the rapid test.
- 424 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 14,476. The 424 include 122 verifications from rapid tests in the previous days.
- In 213 cases the rapid antigen test had a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).
Here are today's results in detail.
Hospitalized:
A total of 110 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in THE OKYP hospitals, 17 of whom are in serious condition.
Of the 17 patients critical, 10 are intubated, two are hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and five in the Increased Care Unit.
Molecular Examination(PCR test))
Of the 3,922 laboratory diagnoses carried out today using the Molecular Method (PCR), 424 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:
- 129 cases out of 883 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
- 1 case of 332 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check.
- 126 cases from 1,660 samples taken through a private initiative.
- 25 cases from 475 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
- 2 cases from 133 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff.
- 18 cases from 159 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures. 18 of the nursing homes/closed structures are: 9 from the nursing home in Peristeron, 8 from the nursing home in Agios Antonios and 1 from Hope for Children.
- 1 case of 13 samples taken under the migrant structure control programme.
- 122 cases from 128 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- From samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 116 laboratory tests were completed, and
- From samples taken as part of the programme of referrals from Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics, 23 laboratory diagnoses were carried out.
Antigen rapid test: Of the 8,894 tests carried out using the rapid test, 213 positive results were obtained.
These 213 cases will be examined using the PCR molecular method in order to be verified.
RAPID TESTS
The Ministry of Health informs that of the 12,816 disease detection tests, 8,894 were performed using the rapid test and 213 positive results were obtained.
These 213 cases will be examined using the PCR molecular method in order to be verified.
Noticeably less are the positive results in Limassol and Paphos compared to the other provinces.
Specifically in Limassol 7 positive results were found, in Paphos 2 results, in Nicosia 94 positive results, in Larnaca 48 and in the free Famagusta 26 positive results.
In detail, the rapid antigen detection tests were carried out today as follows:
