416 NEW CASES AND TWO DEATHS, PLUS 127 POSITIVE RAPID TESTS SUBJECT TO PCR CONFIRMATION

Two deaths and 416 new cases of coronavirus in Cyprus, the Ministry of Health announced today.

  • Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 63.
  • 126 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 20 are in serious condition.
  • A total of 9,452 disease detection tests have been carried out, including 4,347 with the molecular method (PCR) and 5,105 with the rapid test.
  • 416 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 12,867. The 416 include 200 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
  • In 127 cases the rapid antigen test had a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID disease-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Man, aged 84, with underlying diseases, treated at Famagusta General Hospital.
  • Man, aged 89, with underlying illnesses, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 63, of which:

  • 41 men (65%), and
  • 22 women (35%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 77 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 126 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 20 of whom are in serious condition.

Of the 20 patients critical, 9 are intubated, four are hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 7 in the Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Molecular Examination(PCR test))

Of the 4,347 laboratory diagnoses carried out today using the Molecular Method (PCR), 416 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:

  • 144 cases from 948 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 9 cases out of 2,114 taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check.
  • 48 cases from 556 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 10 cases from 243 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 5 cases from 186 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 200 cases from 210 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.

In addition, 90 laboratory diagnoses were carried out from samples taken by the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, without the detection of a case.
