 Filenews 16 December 2020

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 16, 2020:

- One person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 85.

- 125 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 26 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 12,358 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 4,510 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 7,848 using the rapid test.

- 401 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 16,190. The 401 include 180 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.

- In 220 cases from the rapid antigen detection tests there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

Here are today's results in detail.

Deaths from COVID-19:

One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:

- Male, aged 81, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 85, of which:

- 55 men (65%), and

- 30 women (35%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.

Hospitalized:

A total of 125 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYP hospitals, 26 of whom are in serious condition.

Of the 26 patients critical, 12 are intubated, two are hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 12 in the Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

Of the 4,510 laboratory diagnoses carried out today using the Molecular Method (PCR), 401 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:

  • 111 cases from 804 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 1 case of 940 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check.
  • 89 cases from 1,917 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 18 cases from 244 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 278 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
  • 1 case of 133 samples taken as part of an audit of the ELDYK camp.
  • 180 cases from 182 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken as part of a check by the Cyprus Basketball Federation and the Cyprus Volleyball Federation, 12 laboratory diagnoses were carried out.
RAPID TESTS

Of the 7,848 tests carried out using the rapid test, 220 positive results were obtained.

These 220 cases will be examined using the PCR molecular method in order to be verified.

In detail, the rapid antigen detection tests were carried out today as follows:

Above - Limassol, Larnaka, Nicosia, Paphos, Ammochostos, Civil Servants, Retirement Homes, Private Initiative
