369 NEW CASES, PLUS TWO DEATHS SATURDAY [and 181 Positive Rapid tests to be confirmed by PCR]

Two deaths and 369 new cases of coronavirus announced today Saturday by the Ministry of Health. Detail:

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 5, 2020:

  • Two people have died of COVID-19 disease,  bringing the total number of deaths to 59.
  • 119 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, of which 16 are in critical condition.
  • A total of 9,744 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 4,007 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 5,737 using the rapid test.
  • 369 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 12,181. The 369 include 116 verifications from rapid tests in the previous days.
  • In 181 cases from the rapid antigen detection tests there was a positive result which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID disease-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

  • Man, aged 81, with underlying diseases, being treated at Famagusta General Hospital.
  • Woman, aged 82, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 59, of which:

  • 38 men (64%), and
  • 21 women (36%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 76 years.

B. Hospitalized:

A total of 119 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYP hospitals, 16 of whom are in critical condition.

Of the 16 patients critical, 12 are intubated, another is hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 4 in the Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

C. Molecular Examination (PCR test))

Of the 4,007 laboratory diagnoses carried out today using the Molecular Method (PCR), 369 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:

  • 100 cases from 642 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 4 cases from 549 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check.
  • 131 cases from 1,707 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 15 cases from 299 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 29 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures.
  • 2 cases from 240 samples taken under the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics.
  • 116 cases from 123 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • Samples taken as part of the student, teacher and school staff control programme completed 414 laboratory diagnoses, and
  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 4 laboratory tests were carried out.
