The Ministry of Health announces the deaths of two COVID-19 patients, with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19.
In particular, they are:
- Woman, aged 87, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at nicosia General Hospital.
- A man, aged 87, with a serious medical history, who was treated at Famagusta General Hospital after being transferred from the Ekali Rehabilitation Centre in Limassol.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 54.36 men (67%) and 18 women (33%), with an average age of 76 years.
In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that a total of 9,923 tests have now been carried out to detect COVID-19 disease. 348 new positive subjects were identified in the virus, 99 of whom had tested positive for rapid tests in the previous days and subsequently underwent a molecular examination and are now officially confirmed as cases. It is of concern that dozens of incidents have been detected in two nursing homes in Nicosia.
Specifically, of the 9,923 laboratory tests, 3,525 laboratory diagnoses were carried out using the molecular method (PCR), with 249 cases of COVID-19 disease resulting as follows:
- Of 697 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 75 cases were identified.
- Of 1,378 samples taken through a private initiative, 85 cases were identified.
- Of 328 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 29 cases were detected.
- Of 122 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 60 cases were detected. Two cases were detected in Agios Antonios on 26/11 and a re-examination was carried out on 7 days. Of today's incidents, most are elderly people living in these areas, but the investigation has not yet taken place.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
- From samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 415 laboratory tests were carried out,
- From samples taken under the programme of referrals from Personal Physicians and special team control through the Public Health Clinics, 148 laboratory tests were completed,
- From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 19 laboratory tests were carried out, and
- From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 418 laboratory tests were carried out.
Of the 9,923 tests, 6,398 were conducted using the rapid test method, with 162 positive results, which are then to be subjected to a molecular test.
In total, 124 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in the hospitals of OKYP, as follows: Famagusta Hospital (64 patients), Nicosia (23 patients), Limassol (25 patients), Athalassa (5 patients), Makarios (7 patients).
