The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 13, 2020:
- One person has died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 78.
- 120 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 15 of whom are in serious condition.
- A total of 9,845 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 2,427 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 7,418 using the rapid test.
- 301 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 15,101. The 301 include 95 verifications from rapid tests of the previous days.
- In 202 cases the rapid antigen test had a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).
Here are today's results in detail.
A. Deaths from COVID-19:
One person who has died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concerns:
- Woman, aged 84, with no underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.
Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 78, of which:
- 51 men (65%), and
- 27 women (35%).
The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.
B. Hospitalized:
A total of 120 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYP hospitals, 15 of whom are in serious condition.
Of the 15 patients critical, 10 are intubated, one is hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and four in the Increased Care Unit.
In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:
C. Molecular Examination (PCR test)
Of the 2,427 laboratory diagnoses carried out today using the Molecular Method (PCR), 301 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:
107 cases from 926 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
70 cases from 870 samples taken through a private initiative.
25 cases from 248 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
2 cases from 245 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and special teams control through Public Health Clinics.
2 cases from 2 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures.
95 cases from 96 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.
In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:
From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 18 laboratory diagnoses were carried out, and
From samples taken as part of the student, teacher and school staff control programme, 22 laboratory diagnoses were completed
