 Filenews 20 December 2020

The Ministry of Health announces that today, December 20, 2020:

- Two people have died of COVID-19 disease, bringing the total number of deaths to 91.

- 125 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized, 28 of whom are in serious condition.

- A total of 7,218 disease detection tests have been carried out, of which 1,831 have been carried out using the molecular method (PCR) and 5,387 using the rapid test.

- 242 new cases of the disease were detected and confirmed by molecular tests (PCRs), bringing the total number of cases to 17,718. The 242 include 149 verifications from rapid tests in the previous days.

- In 180 cases from the rapid antigen detection tests there was a positive result, which should be verified by the molecular method (PCR).

Here are today's results in detail.

A. Deaths from COVID-19:

The two people who died with the final cause of death attributed to COVID-19 concern:

- Male, aged 72, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at nicosia General Hospital.

- Woman, aged 89, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Limassol General Hospital.

Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 91, of which:

- 59 men (65%), and

- 32 women (35%).

The average age of the deceased from the disease is 78 years.

Hospitalized:

A total of 125 patients with COVID-19 disease are hospitalized in OKYY hospitals, 28 of whom are in serious condition.

Of the 28 patients critical, 13 are intubated, one is hospitalized in the Off-Respirator Intensive Care Unit and 14 in the Increased Care Unit.

In detail the situation in the hospitals is as follows:

Molecular Examination (PCR test): Of the 1,831 laboratory diagnoses carried out today by the Molecular Method (PCR), 242 cases of COVID-19 disease were identified and verified, resulting as follows:

  • 55 cases from 583 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases.
  • 23 cases from 677 samples taken through a private initiative.
  • 14 cases from 145 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals.
  • 1 case of 212 samples taken as part of the referral program by Personal Physicians and Special Teams Control through Public Health Clinics.
  • 149 cases from 155 samples taken for verification using the molecular test method of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • 59 samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria.

RAPID TESTS

Of the 5,387 tests carried out using the rapid test, 180 positive results were obtained.

These 180 cases will be examined using the PCR molecular method in order to be verified.

In detail, the rapid antigen detection tests were carried out today as follows:

Above - Limassol, Larnaka, Nicosia, Paphos, Ammochostos, Nursing Homes - two, Private Initiative
