'TOGETHER WE CHANGE HABITS AND PROTECT THE ENVIRONMENT'

 Filenews 26 November 2020

Under the slogan "Invisible waste", public awareness actions on sustainable resource use and waste management (reduction, reuse, recycling) culminate on Sunday. This is a European initiative, in which Cyprus participates this year with eleven actions. The coordinator of our Waste Prevention Week is the Department of the Environment.

As part of Waste Prevention Week, the Department of the Environment invited cooking schools, TV cooking shows, restaurants/hotels, etc. to adopt new tactics to reduce discarded food, creating new dishes from either leftover food or food, which would otherwise be thrown away while they can be used.

The Department of the Environment also invited all businesses (cafes, coffee shops, etc.) that offer beverages in disposable plastic glass, such as implement new tactics to reduce the consumption of disposable plastics, with the recommendation that customers buy reusable glasses or bring their own, in order to place their beverage from the shop of their choice , giving them an incentive to receive their beverage at a reduced price or to provide reusable (not disposable) utensils to customers enjoying their drink on the business site.

All actions are recorded and made public on an electronic platform created for this purpose and acts as a means of recording and managing actions, promoting them and promoting available educational tools.

It is worth noting that last year there were 16,570 actions recorded across Europe, seven of which were from Cyprus. This year eleven actions are taking place from Cyprus.
