SLOGANS AGAINST PARLIAMENT AND PRESIDENT AT THE LEMESIAN PROTEST - with update re arrests

The lemesian protest, which began around 18:00 in the afternoon, was completed, on the occasion of the restrictive measures imposed by the Government due to the increase in cases of coronavirus in the city.

Hundreds of people gathered on Independence Street chanting slogans such as "the whole House in prison", thus expressing their indignation at the local lockdown.

As reported to us by a police source, 130 people from the Force were recruited in total for the demonstration. These are platoons of Nicosia, Larnaca and Limassol as well as other members of the Limassol Police Directorate from various department.

23 people were arrested last night after the serious incidents that occurred in Independence Street, Heroes Square in Limassol.

Specifically, according to the Police, nine people have been arrested for nuisance, 12 were charged with out-of-court travel after 20:00, two for being drunk, causing concern and obstructing Officers in the performance of their duty and one person for assaulting a police officer. Please note that the persons will be brought before the court.

It should be noted that three MMADITIS were slightly injured, while six Molotovs were found hidden behind a cane.

The aberrations began shortly after 7 p.m., when a group of hooded men began throwing stones, lighting fires in bins, damaging flowers and storefronts, throwing firecrackers and fireworks. Panopla members of the MMAD and the Limassol police, with the help of the anti-nuisance vehicle Theseus and other motor units tried to enforce order and used tear gas. Fire crews rushed to the scene to extinguish the fires.
