Over 2,044. traffic offences were detected during traffic checks carried out in Cyprus by members of the Police in the last week (9-16 November 2020).
Infringement of speed limits on the road network is one of the main factors causing serious and fatal road collisions. During the above period, a total of 979 drivers were reported for speed limit violations in all provinces.
The main factors causing serious and fatal road collisions are also driving under the influence of alcohol, using a mobile phone while driving and failing to use a seatbelt. A total of 180 complaints were made about these offences. Another 183 complaints were made about driving a motor vehicle without a registration.
A total of 124 complaints were made about illegal parking of vehicles, of which 62 concerned illegal parking on sidewalks or pedestrian streets and 15 related to illegal parking in places for people with disabilities.
A total of 53 persons were found to be driving vehicles for which there was no certificate of fitness in force and were reported, while another 29 complaints were made about driving a vehicle without an insurance certificate against a third party. At the same time, 17 complaints were made about driving vehicles, which were registered with the Department of Road Transport as immobilized.
The Police continue to carry out traffic checks, with the aim of preventing road accidents, which result in the injury of persons moving on the road network and in several cases the loss of life.
Road safety, however, is everyone's responsibility and requires everyone's input. The Police look forward to the compliance with the Road Traffic Code on the part of the drivers of vehicles and the cooperation of all those who move on the road network.
