MORE SERVICES TO BE INTRODUCED TO GESY NEXT WEEK

Cyprus Mail 26 November 2020 - by Evie Andreou

More services will be introduced into Gesy next week, including a free annual dental clean, it was announced on Thursday.

Head of the Health Insurance organisation (HIO) Andreas Papaconstantinou told state broadcaster CyBC that as of next week, clinical psychologists and dietitians, psychotherapists, occupational therapists, speech therapists and physiotherapists will start offering their services within Gesy.

Among the new services, is also the introduction of the programme offering one free dental cleaning per year to Gesy beneficiaries.

Papaconstantinou explained that referrals to these new services will be given by specialists. “Referrals to physiotherapists for example, will be issued by orthopaedics and some other specialists,” he said.

As regards physiotherapists, however, sources told the Cyprus Mail that at the first stage, the services to be offered under Gesy concern treatment after surgery, strokes and long-term tendonitis of shoulder. Issues concerning neck, back and knees will not be included in Gesy.

There will be restrictions on how many visits beneficiaries can make, depending on patients’ age and diagnosis. If beneficiaries wish to exceed the number of visits set, they will cover the costs themselves. More information will be announced soon, he said.

Beneficiaries will pay €10 for each appointment with these health professionals. No charge will be made for appointments for free annual dental clean.
