EPIDEMIOLOGIST ON COVID-19 CONFIRMED CASES, PROTECTIVE MEASURES, XMAS

Special epidemiologist Michael Voniatis believes that COVID-19 confirmed cases will be reduced by the end of the month, recommending at the same time that people respect the protective measures during Christmas.

In statements to CNA, Dr. Voniatis said the situation is very serious in the sense that the virus is circulating in the community without any control. However, he noted that the measures taken are expected to bear fruit in the next 10 days.

He noted that the fact that the number of confirmed cases yesterday was reduced was not enough because this must continue for 4-5 days but expressed hope that this will be achieved by the end of the month.

Asked to comment on the protest in Limassol, he said that this will possibly have consequences and a certain increase of confirmed cases but this will become evident in the next few days.

Regarding Christmas, he said that this year we are not going to have the Christmas we used to have in previous years and we must be ready to make some sacrifices.

Asked until then the restrictive measures will be part of our life, he said at least until July. It depends when the vaccine will be available and how soon vaccinations will take place.
