268 NEW CASES THURSDAY INCLUDING 42 CONFIRMED CASES FROM RAPID ANTIGEN TEST METHOD

The Ministry of Health informs that a total of 12,363 tests have now been carried out to detect COVID-19 disease.

A. Molecular Examination (PCR test): Of the 12,363, 6,356 laboratory diagnoses were carried out using the Molecular Method (PCR), with 226 new cases of COVID-19, resulting as follows:

• Of 801 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 64 cases were detected.

• Of 2,919 samples taken through a private initiative, 90 cases were detected.

• Of 348 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 21 cases were detected.

• Of 137 samples taken under the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 5 cases were identified.

• Of 257 samples taken in Limassol Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 3 cases were detected.

• Of 919 samples taken in Paphos Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 6 cases were detected.

• Of 291 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 37 cases were detected.

In addition, laboratory tests were carried out by the following programmes, without the detection of a case:

• From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 464 laboratory tests were carried out,

• From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 98 laboratory tests were completed,

• From samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 116 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,

• In the context of a random check carried out by the COP on associations participating in its competitions, the laboratory test for 2 samples was carried out,

• From samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 4 laboratory diagnoses were completed.

In addition, 42 positively identified cases were verified using the PCR method through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by the PCR method are included in the total number of cases below.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 7,979.

C. Hospitalized:

At Famagusta General Hospital, 64 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus, including five in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, a total of ten patients are hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, four of whom are off the ventilator. Another seven people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at nicosia General Hospital.
