254 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH, WEDNESDAY, PLUS 97 POSITIVE RAPID TESTS

The death of a male patient with COVID-19 aged 82 years, with underlying diseases, who was hospitalized at the Limassol General Hospital after being transferred from the Multi-Powered Center of Kyperountas, is announced. The final cause of death is attributed to COVID-19 disease. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 47.31 men (66%) and 16 women (34%), with an average age of 75 years.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that a total of 11,986 tests have now been carried out to detect COVID-19 disease.

A. Molecular Examination (PCRtest): Of the 11,986 laboratory tests, 6,431 laboratory diagnoses were carried out using the Molecular Method (PCR), with 208 cases of COVID-19 disease resulting as follows:

  • Of 688 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 53 cases were identified.
  • Of 2,250 samples taken through a private initiative, 77 cases were detected.
  • Of 447 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 17 cases were detected.
  • Of 249 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 3 cases were identified.
  • Of 254 samples taken in Limassol Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 12 cases were detected.
  • Of 126 samples taken in Paphos Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 1 case was detected.
  • Of 584 samples taken in Larnaca Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 2 cases were detected.
  • Of 1,158 samples taken in nicosia as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 6 cases were detected.
  • Of 109 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 35 cases were identified.
  • Of 202 samples taken as part of the passenger and repatriated checks, 2 cases were detected

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 174 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 49 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
  • From samples taken in Famagusta Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 91 laboratory diagnoses were carried out, and
  • From samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 50 laboratory diagnoses were completed.

B. Antigenrapidtest: Of the 11,986 tests, 5,555 were performed using the rapid test method, with 97 positive results, identified as follows:

* Sampling in Akaki continues until 8.30 p.m. and the resulting results will be announced tomorrow.

In addition, the molecular test method verified the positive result for 46 samples of positive results detected through the rapid antigen test method in the previous days. Two other positive rapid test results were not verified by the molecular test. Positive rapid antigen detection tests confirmed by the PCR method are included in the number of daily occurrences and the total number of cases below.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 9,453.

C. Hospitalized:

In total, 107 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in THE HOSPITALS, as follows:

A total of 254 positive results were identified, of which 46 were for people who had tested positive for rapid-tests in the previous days and subsequently underwent a molecular examination and are now officially confirmed as cases. Two positive results were not verified by molecular examination.

The 35 positives from the control program of nursing homes/other closed structures are from the Clementio nursing home in Nicosia (Agios Antonios). A worker was tested positive and a mobile unit was currently sampled on site for all (109 people). Most of the positives are elderly.
