228 NEW CASES TUESDAY

A total of 228 new cases of COVID-19 disease detected in the last 24 hours were announced by the Ministry of Health, out of a total of 8,887 laboratory diagnoses.

In detail, today's cases emerged as follows:

  • Of 528 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 40 cases were identified.
  • Of 3,274 samples taken through a private initiative, 127 cases were detected.
  • Of 345 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 29 cases were detected.
  • Of 284 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 8 cases were identified.
  • Of 496 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 2 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,650 samples taken in Limassol Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 3 cases were detected.
  • Of 942 samples taken in the Nicosia Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 3 cases were detected.
  • Of 268 samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 16 cases were identified.

In addition, laboratory tests were carried out by the following programmes, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 249 laboratory tests were completed,
  • In the context of a random check carried out by the COP on associations participating in its competitions, the laboratory test for 1 sample was carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 147 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 103 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From samples taken in Paphos Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 600 laboratory tests were carried out.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 7,513.

In addition, 54 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, six of whom are in the Increased Care Unit. In addition, a total of ten patients are hospitalized in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital, three of whom are off the ventilator. Another ten people are being treated in a COVID-19 ward at nicosia General Hospital.
