220 NEW CASES AND ONE DEATH THURSDAY, PLUS 103 POSITIVE RAPID TESTS WHICH ARE SUBJECT TO A PCR TEST

The Ministry of Health announces the death of a male patient with COVID-19, aged 84, with underlying diseases, who was being treated at Famagusta General Hospital. The final cause of death is attributed to COVID-19 disease. Therefore, the total number of deaths with the final cause of COVID-19 is 48.32 men (67%) and 16 women (33%), with an average age of 75 years.

In addition, the Ministry of Health informs that a total of 12,099 tests have now been carried out to detect COVID-19 disease. 220 cases were identified, 45 of which involved people who in previous days had tested positive for rapid tests and subsequently underwent a molecular examination and are now officially confirmed as cases. Another positive rapid test result was not confirmed with the molecular test.

A. Molecular Examination (PCRtest): Of the 12,099 laboratory tests, 5,935 laboratory diagnoses were carried out using the molecular method (PCR), with 175 cases of COVID-19 disease resulting as follows:

  • Of 707 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 88 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,331 samples taken through a private initiative, 54 cases were detected.
  • Of 289 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 7 cases were identified.
  • Of 126 samples taken as part of the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 2 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,552 samples taken in Limassol Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 13 cases were detected.
  • Of 261 samples taken in Larnaca Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 2 cases were detected.
  • Of 2 samples taken in Famagusta Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 2 cases were detected.
  • Of 381 samples taken in nicosia as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Limassol and Paphos Provinces, 3 cases were detected.
  • Of 172 samples taken under the laboratory testing programme carried out in nursing homes and other structures, 2 cases were identified. The two incidents from the program of control of nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, other closed structures are from the nursing home of Agios Antonios in nicosia province.
  • Of 222 samples taken as part of the control programme for pupils, teachers and school staff, 2 cases were identified.

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken under the migrant structure control programme, 133 laboratory diagnoses were completed,
  • From samples taken in Paphos Province as part of a check of workers who fall under the exemptions for travel to and from the Provinces of Limassol and Paphos, 400 laboratory tests were carried out,
  • From samples taken in the context of passenger and repatriated checks, 244 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From samples taken from the residents of Kato Pyrgos Tylliria, 115 laboratory diagnoses were completed.

B. Antigen rapid test: Of the 12,099 tests, 6,164 were performed using the rapid test method, with 103 positive results, identified as follows:

C. Hospitalized:

In total, 109 COVID-19 patients are hospitalized in OKYP Hospitals, as follows:
