TWENTYTWO NEW CASES TODAY - SATURDAY

The State Health Department today announced 22 new cases of coronavirus. The Ministry of Health informs that, according to an update received today by the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit from contracting laboratories, a total of 3,477 laboratory diagnoses identified 22 new cases of COVID-19 disease.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 184 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 3 cases were identified.
  • Of 1,255 samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 6 cases were identified.
  • Of 101 samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 831 samples taken through a private initiative, 8 cases were identified.
  • Of 285 samples taken under the referral programme by Personal Physicians and special teams control through the Public Health Clinics, 4 cases were identified.

All details of the new incidents:

  • 3 by tracing:
  1. One person is in close contact from the family environment of the case announced on 30/9, related to the National Achna cluster. Today's person has had symptoms (cough, sore throat, headaches) since 30/9.
  2. The 2nd person is in close contact with the case announced on 29/9 by tracing the contacts of another incident (27/9). He's the fourth person in this chain.
  3. The 3rd person is contact of the student of Linopetra High School announced on 27/9. He attends a high school in Limassol Province. We now have seven people in the chain.
  • 4 by Special Teams / Referral by doctor:
  1. The first person is a worker at the British Bases. On 30/9, he had a sore throat.
  2. The 2nd person had symptoms from 30/9 (sore throat, brains) and was referred by his Personal Physician.
  3. The 3rd person had symptoms on 29/9 (fever, myalgia, cough) and was referred by his personal physician.
  4. The fourth person did the test as part of a preoperative check-up.
  • 6 of flights:
  1. One person came from Moscow to Larnaca on 2/10.
  2. Two people came from London to Larnaca on the same flight on 2/10.
  3. Three people came from Athens to Larnaca on the same flight on 2/10.
  • 8 by private initiative:
  1. Two people work in a business in Dasia, Achna. They did the examination privately through the company where they work. Both today's people had symptoms from 29/9, one agaesthesia and runny nose and the other weakness and cough.
  2. One person is a football player of ASIL Solution and contact of one of the previous cases of the team announced on 29/9. He took a test so he could play.
  3. One person took the test privately, with no symptoms.
  4. One person had symptoms from 29/9 (sore throat, myalgia, headache) and took the test privately.
  5. Three people took the test on the 12th day to be released from quarantine in accordance with the relevant Decree. All three people came from Russia: the two people on 18/9 and the 3rd person on 20/9.
  • 1 from Microbiological Laboratories of General Hospitals: This is a British man who came to Cyprus on 27/9 from England. On 2/10 he developed symptoms (cough and fever) and visited the hospital. He was transferred to Famagusta.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,811.

In addition, 10 people tested positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus at Famagusta General Hospital, four of them in the Increased Care Unit. Two patients are being treated in the Intensive Care Unit of the Nicosia General Hospital. In the remaining hospitals in a ward, a COVID-19 patient is hospitalized.
