THREE NEW CASES TODAY

Three new cases of coronavirus out of a total of 3,108 laboratory tests were announced today by the Ministry of Health following an update received from the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit.

In detail, virus-positive individuals emerged as follows:

  • Of 760 samples taken through a private initiative, 1 case was identified.
  • Of 69 samples taken through the process of tracing contacts of already confirmed cases, 2 cases were identified.

The 3 new incidents emerged as follows:

  • 1 x private initiative: This cypriot took the test on his own initiative. He has no symptoms.
  • 2 x tracing: These are two people from the family environment of the incident announced on 9/9 by the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals (had symptoms). Of today's cases, one person has a travel history in England and the second has symptoms (brains and iosmia).

In addition, the following laboratory tests were carried out, without the detection of a case:

  • From samples taken from the Microbiological Laboratories of the General Hospitals, 119 laboratory tests were completed,
  • From samples taken as part of the migrant structure control programme, 26 laboratory diagnoses were carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of a passenger and repatriated check, 1,583 laboratory tests were carried out,
  • From samples taken as part of the programme for the control of pupils, teachers and school staff, 506 laboratory diagnoses were completed, and
  • From samples taken as part of the programme of referrals by Personal Physicians and control of special teams through the Public Health Clinics, 45 laboratory diagnoses were completed.

Therefore, and on the basis of the data so far, the total number of cases amounts to 1,520.

In addition, three people positive for the SARS-CoV-2 virus are being treated at Famagusta General Hospital, one of whom is in the Increased Care Unit. A COVID-19 patient is being treated outside the Intensive Care Unit of Nicosia General Hospital.
