ONE IN 60 POSITIVE FOR CORONAVIRUS

Filenews 14 August 2020 -Marilena Panagi

One in 60 people who participated in yesterday's random sampling in Paphos tested positive for the coronavirus, which once again heightens the Health Ministry's concern about the magnitude of the spread of the virus in the Community. Specifically, the 8 cases were detected from 463 samples taken from the province of Paphos while a total of 631 laboratory diagnoses were completed yesterday from the programme of 10,000 random samples.

The analysis of these cases is of particular concern since they are unrelated individuals, who come from different provinces of Cyprus. Of the 8 subjects only one showed symptoms and was sampled through this program.

In total yesterday the Ministry of Health announced 14 new cases of coronavirus. Two of them concerned Cypriots who had returned to Cyprus after a holiday in Greece and were sampled upon arrival at the airport. The remaining 4 cases resulted from the process of tracing other confirmed cases. Information from "F" indicates that one person comes from the transmission chain that was based on the woman who returned from the U.S. in the previous weeks and a second person was added to the list of the remaining 4 cases that occurred after a party. The 14 new cases resulted from a total of 3,387 laboratory diagnoses.
