PRESIDENTIAL PALACE MEETING ON FLIGHTS, GROUPING OF COUNTRIES [Friday]

in-cyprus 1 July 2020 - by Bouli Hadjioannou

President Nicos Anastasiades will hold a new meeting with the team of scientists advising the government on the coronavirus outbreak that is expected to focus on flights and the classification of countries for travel to Cyprus, CNA reports.

It said that the Friday morning meeting will assess the situation in view of phase four of relaxation of the lockdown.

The timing comes at a critical juncture in view of an anticipated increase in tourism, it noted.

Flights and the classification of countries into Group A  and Group B will be discussed with particular emphasis on which group the UK will be added to, and when, CNA added citing sources.

Passengers from the 22 countries currently in Group A can come to Cyprus without restrictions, but those from the 14 strong Group B must show a negative coronavirus test no older than 72 hours. About 300 random tests are also carried out at the airports on arrival.

For countries not on either list — which includes the UK, Cyprus’ main tourism market, entry is permitted only to Cypriots and legal residents.

Hoteliers have been pressing for a date regarding when travellers will be allowed from the UK so that tour operators and airlines can plan accordingly.

Friday’s meeting will also discuss the further easing of restrictive measures as concerns concerts and theatres, indoors and outdoors, CNA added.
