PAPHOS HIGHEST, LIMASSOL LOWEST NUMBER OF COVID-19 CASES AS SHARE OF POPULATION

Paphos district continues to record the highest number of coronavirus cases as a share of population, closely followed by Larnaca.

According to the KIOS platform on Covid-19 cases in Cyprus, last updated on July 11, the district of Paphos has 183 positive cases per 100,000 of the population. Larnaca had the second highest with 171 per 100,000 population, Nicosia and Famagusta were practically on a par with 109 and 108 respectively while Limassol had a significantly lower number with 51 per 100,000 population.

The municipality with the highest number of cases (in absolute figures) is Aradippou with 130. Strovolos had the second highest number of cases with 80 and Paphos municipality was third with 66.  Also in the top five are Lakatamia (40) and Larnaca (39).

Of the total of 1014 confirmed cases, 839 have recovered. There are currently 149 active cases in Cyprus.

By age group, 20% of the positive cases are aged 30 to 39, and 17% each for the 40 to 49 and 50 to 59 age group. Only 3% were under nine and another 3% were over 80.

The overwhelming majority (92.3%) of positive cases are Cypriot citizens. There were marginally more men (50.9%) among the positive cases than women (49.1%).

Overall, a total of 172,642 coronavirus tests have been carried out in Cyprus, which is equivalent to 19,111 per 100,000 population. This is the fourth highest in the EU as a percentage of population.

In terms of deaths per 100,000 of the population Cyprus has recorded 2.2  which is the fifth lowest in the EU.
