Limassol municipality has decided to cancel the Wine Festival due to the coronavirus, it was announced on Friday.
The municipality said it will organise smaller scale events towards the end of September.
Mayor Nicos Nicolaides said the decision was made on Thursday evening, taking into consideration the need to safeguard the country’s exit from pandemic conditions.
The council also decided to organise a series of events dedicated to wine, folklore, and popular songs.
The events will be either held at the embankment, or the castle or the old port. Entrance will be free.
The Wine Festival started in 1961 and was cancelled five times – 1964, 1974, 1975, 1976, 1977 – due to the intercommunal strife and Turkish invasion of the island.
