Starting on Wednesday, the Greek government will be extending the number of venues where the use of face masks is mandatory.
This measure comes in response to the latest figures on the spread of Covid-19 Deputy Civil Protection and Crisis Management Minister Nikos Hardalias announced in a press conference on Tuesday.
In addition to supermarkets, public transport, taxis, malls, restaurants, cafés and bars, where face masks were already obligatory, from Wednesday on, customers will also be required to wear a face mask when entering small shops providing goods and services of all kinds, public utility companies, banks, doctors’ surgeries, municipality buildings, food retailers such as bakeries, butchers, and greengrocers, and in hair salons and beauty parlours.
Hardalias emphasised the importance of strictly adhering to hygiene rules and avoiding large gatherings and crowds.
He reported that 171,138 tests have been carried out in total at airports and other gateways into the country between July 1 to 26, and that the active Covid-19 cases at this time number 429.
