Turkish Cypriot authorities confirmed on Wednesday night the first imported case in the Turkish-held occupied areas, an arrival from Turkey found from 434 tests on July 1, on the first day of implementation of the decision to allow arrivals without quarantine by air and sea.

According to CNA, the self-styled health minister Ali Pilli said that the case was among passengers who arrived by boat. Another 369 test results are pending and concern passengers who landed yesterday in the occupied areas on two flights from Istanbul. The 434 samples whose checks have been completed were of passengers who arrived by sea.

The passenger who tested positive has been taken to the occupied Nicosia hospital in a special quarantine area, Pilli added.

He also announced that as of today, July 2, those entering the occupied territories by air and sea and the airports of the Republic of Cyprus will go into quarantine at hotels designated by the “health ministry” until their PCR test results come out.

This is the first case announced in the occupied areas in 75 days and raises the number of positive cases there to 109. The previous case there was recorded on April 17, 2020.
