In 330 complaints of drivers for various traffic violations, the Police made a pancyprian level and 4 cars, 43 motorcycles were seized, while 5 persons were arrested
In the context of the prevention of serious and fatal road collisions as well as the prevention and
suppression of nuisance and juvenile delinquency, targeted checks were carried out last night and in
the early hours of today targeted checks in various parts of the provinces, following instructions
from the Chief of Police in a conference call yesterday with the participation of all Police
Directors and Departments and Departments and Services Officers.
During the inspections, 330 drivers were charged with various traffic offences, while four cars and
43 motorcycles were seized, after allegedly having undergone mechanical modifications, did not
carry registration plates, did not carry their documents and allegedly carried out various serious traffic
offences.
Specifically, in the Nicosia district during the inspections, 8 motorcycles were seized, in famagusta
district 5 motorcycles were seized and in limassol district 4 cars and 14 motorcycles were seized.
It is noted that a total of 16 motorcycles were seized during the week in larnaka district.
In limassol district, the police proceeded to arrest three persons, for assaulting a police officer,
resisting the lawful arrest, threatening to use force, concern and obstructing a police officer in the
performance of his duty.
In particular, members of the Police Department had been stopped for inspection by a motorcycle
driven by a 38-year-old man, who was reportedly not wearing a protective helmet and the motorcycle
did not carry registration plates.
Immediately after the cardiac arrest, the 38-year-old allegedly began to react, causing concern
while pushing the officer who arrested him for the above-the-top offences. A second officer
approached the scene to help the first officer after the 38-year-old allegedly resisted arrest. At the
same time, a 17-and-a-half-year-old man allegedly obstructed the officers in carrying out their duties,
while a 28-year-old third person allegedly held up police members and caused concern. All three
persons were arrested, taken to the offices of the Limassol Department of Minor Offences where they
were charged in writing to be summoned to the Court.
Also, in paphos district, two people were found and arrested for stabbing. In particular, in the first
case, members of the Police stopped for checking a car driven by a resident of Pafos where
during the investigation, two cleaver-type knives were found in the car, with blades 32 and 26 cm
long. In the second case, during a check on another person's car, two knives with blades 10 and
seven centimetres long were found. In both cases these persons were arrested and after being
charged in writing they were released to be summoned to the Court of Justice.
Police checks will continue in the context of consolidating citizen safety and combating traffic
offences as well as preventing serious and fatal road collisions.
