Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou said on Thursday that the deadline for applications for the special allowance for students stranded abroad is extended to May 22 and that a special €900 grant will be given to culture professionals for three months.
Prodromou said yesterday that schools and nurseries will reopen on May 21 and that 20,000 Covid-19 tests will be performed on teachers and pupils before they go back to school.
Speaking to the press following a Ministerial Council meeting on Thursday, he said that the tests will be performed on children, teachers and other school staff across Cyprus and will cover 1/5 of the schools’ population.
“The tests are important as they will tell us if we are truly moving ahead in conditions of hygienic security,” he said.
On culture professionals, Prodromou said that the Council of Ministers has approved a €900 emergency grant for three months, and the application criteria will be published tomorrow on the Education Ministry’s website.
“An announcement will be released for when applications can be submitted via a platform to be launched by the Ministry,” he concluded.
