Labour inspectors on Thursday closed six building sites — three in Nicosia and three in Limassol — for failure to implement decrees to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
Overall, teams of inspectors carried out 800 checks, of which 684 of shops. They found satisfactory compliance although there were some cases of lack of signage.
They also checked 116 construction sites. Some did not have the necessary signage, sanitary facilities, washing facilities, antiseptics and workers were not adhering to distancing rules nor had they been briefed about the protective measures.
The teams issued instructions to improve measures and six construction sites were prohibited from continuing operation.
Labour inspectors said they will continue their checks and if necessary will impose the sanctions permitted by law (out of court fines, criminal prosecution and immediate interruption of operations).
