Ayia Napa Marina hosts on Thursday five Cyprus Navy vessels, in a trial visit to test the technical specifications and operational capabilities of the marina that is under construction in the eastern coast of Cyprus.
A military source told CNA that provisions were made in the marina’s technical specifications, at the suggestion of the construction company, in order to be able to host Cyprus Navy vessels in the marina’s facilities. The same source also indicated the marina’s strategic and operational importance for Famagusta District, which is separated from the rest of the country by the adjacent British Bases.
“There is cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry was consulted while drawing up the designs” for the marina, the source noted, adding that these designs will be put to test for the first time on Thursday.
Ayia Napa Marina announced the visit of the five naval ships in its facilities, saying that they sail for training purposes. The vessels are ΜΥΚ 1-1, Tsomakis, Georgiou, Ioannides and Famagusta, according to a company announcement.
During the visit, crews will have the opportunity to test and tour facilities, guided by Ayia Napa Marina CEO, Stavros Caramondanis, and the marina’s Managing Director, Costas Fitiris, the announcement concludes.
