Currently Paphos General Hospital has to send Covid-19 samples to Limassol or Nicosia for testing which causes lengthy delays.
Ten local communities, of which Tala is one, expressed a wish to help the health system in Paphos, and the General Hospital advised that they needed a testing machine. This will cost around €30,000, and each of the ten communities is contributing €3,000.
The machine is a Cepheid Genexpert IV providing molecular diagnostics. The machine can turn around test results in around an hour, as opposed to the current system which takes days,
It will be greatly beneficial for use with Covid-19 samples, but can also be used to test for various infectious diseases, infections, women's and sexual health, virology, oncology and genetics.
