KOSTRIKIS - NO CONCERN FOR SUPERMARKET CUSTOMERS

in-cyprus 15 April 2020 - by Josephine Koumettou

There is no reason for concern for those citizens that visited a Nicosia supermarket branch that announced yesterday positive cases found at its premises, said Dr Leontios Kostrikis on Tuesday evening.
Responding to questions from journalists following the daily briefing of new Covid cases in Cyprus, asked whether all customers of the supermarket should take the coronavirus test, Kostrikis said that there is no reason to do so.

He explained that based on the Epidemiological Surveillance Unit’s protocols, to be a contact of a positive case you need to have interacted with them in the same space for a continuous period of more than 15 minutes.
“You understand that in such businesses, there is no chance you will be in contact with an employee for 15 consecutive minutes; not at the till nor at any other service point,” he noted.
Following the identification of positive cases at its premises, the supermarket’s management said yesterday that tracing of their contacts was underway and that all personnel at the specific supermarket were placed in home isolation awaiting testing and new personnel was brought in to operate the branch.
The employees were detected as part of wider testing being carried out by the Health Ministry among public and private sector employees in contact with the public in order to locate asymptomatic Covid-19 cases.
