PROCEDURES IN MOTION TO MAKE AVAILABLE DRUGS USED AGAINST COVID-19

The Cyprus Drugs Committee has decided to put in motion the procedures to make available sufficient quantities of the drugs used to combat Covid-19 in accordance with the recommendations of a consultative committee of experts, Minister of Health Constantinos Ioannou has announced.
Ioannou, who was speaking on Monday at a press conference during which he also announced the tightening of restrictive measures in order to contain the coronavirus outbreak, made it clear that “at present stage there is no approved treatment to deal with the coronavirus.”

He informed however that as far as drugs used in public hospitals is concerned, the Drugs Committee, which is the relevant institutional body which approves drugs’ protocols has decided to set in motion the procedures to make available sufficient quantities of the drugs the consultative committee of scientists is recommending on the coronavirus.”
These drugs, he noted, “which are already used to deal with other chronic diseases, exist in sufficient quantities.”
Further details on the pharmacies which will have these drugs will be announced later, he added.
The Minister of Health also expressed his satisfaction over the moving mobilisation by companies, organizations and people offering money or free equipment, consumables and drugs to be used in the fight against the coronavirus, expressing the government`s heartfelt thanks and the hope that “we will win this great battle.”
