NEIGHBOURHOOD POLICE SUMMONED TO SUPPORT LOCKDOWN ENFORCEMENT

in-cyprus 31 March 2020 -By Josephine Koumettou

Members of the neighbourhood police body have been incorporated in planning for monitoring the stepped-up lockdown measures announced on Monday by the Minister of Health to contain the spread of Covid-19.
Head of community policing Petros Pattouras told philenews that all members of local police have been placed at the disposal of the Police to help with ensuring the enforcement of the new stricter measures that include the limiting of outings to once a day, the prohibition of house gatherings involving people other than the permanent residents and the issuing of 300 euro fines for violation of the decree.
In addition, citizens that participate in the Neighbourhood Observation scheme have received a text message on their mobile phones requesting them to help contain the spread of Covid-19 by reporting any violations that come to their attention on the number 1460.

In his communication with Neighbourhood Observer groups, Pattouras asked them to not move around on foot in their areas for their own safety, calling them instead to report violations by telephone during their transit to work or in their own neighbourhood.
