Police have recently received complaints from citizens about online fraud by email - Email and it
appears that this type of fraud is in full swing.
Specifically, malicious people send misleading messages with the ultimate goal of deceiving
unsuspecting users into making a wire transfer to various foreign bank accounts. The perpetrators,
after locating the information with emails of various Associations or other organized groups, send
these messages to the Treasurer of the Association or Organization, pretending to be the Chairman
of the Board and inviting him to proceed to a wire transfer.
To combat fraud, cybercriminals are using deceptive online services so that recipients of the
message consider the message to be authentic.
The public is urged to be particularly attentive to such messages it receives.
Confirm any payment order, especially when referring to different bank accounts than usual.
The public can also contact the Cybercrime Office by phone at 22808200 or via the cyberalert.cy
