SIMPLE MEASURES TO PROTECT AGAINST BURGLARIES AND THEFTS AT FIELD TRIPS THIS GREEN MONDAY

28/02/2020 18:27:00

For those who are away from home this weekend of the Weekend and Green Monday, as well as
for winter mountain lovers, here are some simple safeguards against burglaries and thefts in
crowded picnic areas.

Homeowners
1. Before leaving our home, we make sure that we do not leave any indication of our absence.
We avoid any posting or sharing on social media online, which may indicate where we are and
betray our absence.
2. We make sure that our home is locked securely by locking doors, windows and lights. We don't
leave the keys in the locks, not even on the inside of the door.

3. We do not leave exposed or unsafe items, money, jewelry or other valuables and important
documents.
4. If an alarm system or surveillance circuit is installed in our home, we make sure we have it
turned on.
5. We work with people of our trust, such as our parents or adult children, to regularly monitor
our home while we are away.

Safety at the picnic areas
1. Avoid transferring large sums of money. We take as much money with us as we think we will need.
2. In busy lounges we carry our bag in such a way that we have visual contact with it, for example,
cross-body in front of the body or have our money, bank credit cards and cell phones in our front
pockets.
3. We always have our personal belongings, without leaving them exposed anywhere.

Responsible vehicle drivers
1. We should never leave exposed bags, wallets, cell phones, laptops or other valuables inside our
vehicles.
2. We park our vehicle in parking lots, as it is safer. We raise the windows, lock the doors and take
the keys with us, even if it is a short stop.
3. If an anti-theft alarm system is installed in our vehicle, we are sure to have it activated.

Note: With our physical integrity, safety, and health always prioritized, we avoid any
confrontation with any suspicious person who may react aggressively against us. The discreet
observation of suspects and the immediate reporting to the police is the safest handling of such
incidents by citizens. To contact the police, the public can call the Citizens' Contact Number 1460 .
