Police are conducting a traffic control campaign for the use of seat belts and child or lift seats
by motorists and passengers from Monday, February 17, to continue efforts to prevent and reduce
serious and fatal car accidents. The Cyprus campaign will last two weeks and is expected to be
completed on Sunday, March 1, 2020.
The purpose of this new campaign is to increase the awareness of drivers and passengers in the
use of safety belts in both front and rear seats, as well as to children and the use of child seats.
The analysis of data from the examination of fatal road accidents in recent years highlights the
critical role played by the use of safety belts by drivers and passengers of vehicles to protect them
in the event of a traffic accident. According to these figures, in the period 2016-2018, two out
of three drivers and passengers who died in traffic accidents did not wear seat belts. The
seat belt undoubtedly remains the most effective safety feature on motor vehicles. Equally critical
to protecting children on board vehicles is the use of child seats.
The Police are therefore focusing their efforts to inform and raise public awareness of the
effective response to these two traffic offenses. The ultimate goal is to reduce serious injuries and
loss of life in traffic accidents.
