ANIMAL PARTY - 'SHELTERS EN ROUTE TO CLOSURE'

in-cyprus 13 February 2020 -Edited by

The Animal Party Cyprus (APC) expressed concerns over the potential closure of some dog shelters in the next two-three months and fears that more will follow in an announcement published today, philenews reports.
The party cites two main reasons for this development, including the increased demands by the state in new legislation put into force at the beginning of the year, aimed at regulating animal shelters and animal hotels, that is too expensive for shelters to implement.
“The second reason concerns hurdles in finding state or Turkish-Cypriot land the affected shelters can move to.
“The Ministry of Agriculture has been trying to create shelters for each district, but that has not yet materialised resulting in some shelters facing imminent closure.

“We support the Ministry’s efforts but they need to speed up the process,” APC concludes.
