The Agriculture Ministry is accepting applications from animal welfare associations and shelters for an annual grant from the €100,000 it has budgeted for 2020.
It said the funds will be distributed on the basis of criteria which relate to the size, the financial state and the activities of each association or shelter.
The ministry said that cabinet has also approved an additional €100,000 to help animal shelters comply with the new law on animal welfare at animal shelters, animal hotels and breeding establishments.
The money will go exclusively to shelters operated by registered animal welfare societies to help them upgrade and improve conditions.
Applications must be submitted by July 31, 2020.
Applications are available from the Veterinary Services in Athalassa, Nicosia. The application form and information as to the documents that must accompany an application can be found on the website of the Veterinary Services.
